Biruhtesfa Abere
Biruhtesfa is Associate Director at eGOV Global. Biruh is a strategic digital transformation and governance leader with over 16 years of experience driving large-scale technology, systems, and institutional transformation initiatives across the public and private sectors. Passionate about the role of DPI, interoperability, and data-driven governance in improving public service delivery, he has led national and multi-country digital transformation programs across Ethiopia, Kenya, PNG, and Zimbabwe.
Biruh began his career in software development, building hands-on expertise in database design, software engineering, and deployment before transitioning into public sector digital transformation leadership. He was entrusted by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to lead the national COVID-19 digital response, overseeing the rapid deployment of digital platforms and decision-support systems that informed national action during the pandemic. Prior to joining eGov Global, Biruh served as Senior Technical Director for USAID’s $63M flagship Digital Health Activity, providing strategic direction and technical oversight.
Biruh holds a BSc degree in Software Engineering, and he later completed his MBA at the University of Greenwich.
